I want to know how much reading I did on the web

I have an idea for an extension. If you can build it earlier and better than me, go ahead please.

At the end of 2013, I had read a few books but a whole lot of articles. I used Pocket for a while, but it got tiring to always open an app to read when I mostly use my twitter favorites to bookmark. Which means, at the end of the year I had little or no stats as to how much I had actually read in the year. People using Pocket got stats at the end of the year telling them how much they read. I want to be able to log my reading on the web too.

So I want to create a chrome extension. I plan to use Readability’s API to parse the readable content on any page. The app will

  • Save this page title.
  • Save the amount of words, sentences, etc. in the parsed version returned by Readability. I’m a designer so I can’t code that, but I have a friend that’s promised to work on this with me.

Every user should get a button in Chrome to log pages they want and a dashboard for their statistics. If I get this right, and 1000 people to install it, I’d try to get someone to build other browser plugins.
