#8: November

I’ve been talking about Wuruwuru and doing “research” for many months now but we haven’t actually finished anything. No article, no dataset, no album, no brochure, no video. Nothing. Just audio. 😭

Anyway, we hope to start publishing in November. Tomiwa will complete the J Guide with Vanny and Eseosa’s writing an essay about album covers.

The J Guide

We need 90gsm kraft paper for the physical brochure and OD hasn’t been able to source this yet. Her printer uses an HP Indigo so there’s a compatibility constraint too. We’re going to exhaust all options to find the paper locally, but if not we’ll have to ship some. In the meantime, I’ve been learning about the basics of paper and how it’s made.

I’ve also just completed the storyboard for the Highlights, so we can start illustrating the actual guide. We can publish the guide without the brochure.

Nigerian Album Art

One of the early stories we wanted to make was about the history of Nigerian pop music in general. But it’s such a massive topic and the more research we did, the more there was to write about.

So we’re starting with a smaller subject: album art. Eseosa will work on a timeline of Nigerian album art over the years. We’ll document how the production process has evolved and do interviews with people who’ve made a career out of this type of graphic design.

We’ve started with some desk research and collected ~ 290 images of album covers over the years. We still need to upload the cover and find the designer for many of them. I guess that’s the work.
