#32: Dear Sir
My friend Saratu is helping me with legal stuff. Like, for free!
In return, I’m helping her with website stuff. Sometimes I hate money, so this barter gives me a lot of joy.
She’s trying to get Wuruwuru registered again, and of course CAC responded with “WTF” (third time now).
So, she’s drafted them a letter to appeal. I didn’t even know you could do that but heh, I’m excited to see what they respond with.
And if this doesn’t work, she has a backup plan. Fingers crossed.
Dear Sir,
I act as Solicitor to Mr. Opemipo Aikomo, the Proprietor of the above stated business name application. On the […] I received the Registrar’s query notice in respect of the said application, wherein the choice of the word “wuruwuru” was questioned. This letter seeks to expound on the meaning of the word “wuruwuru” and its significance to the Proprietor’s venture, and humbly request that the application be kindly accepted for registration.
The word **“wuruwuru”:**
With Hausa and Yoruba language origins and vernacular use, the word “wuru-wuru” or “wuruwuru” simply means not straightforward, indirect or complicated. The connotation of the word “wuruwuru”, in our society, is typically understood to be an unusual, atypical and nonconforming way of achieving a desired objective. In this sense, one might say: “I completed the questions by wuruwuru to the answer” or “the shortcut to her house is a wuruwuru road”.
In the context of this application, the Proprietor makes reference to wuruwuru as an unusual way of compiling ideas and publishing stories.
Wuruwuru Publishing House
The objective of the Proprietor’s venture is to make multimedia stories about design and popular culture in Nigeria with the goal to eventually publish and sell these stories as a high quality digital/printed magazine.
The idea is to take an interesting question or topic and explore it with a visual essay, game, music album, animation, documentary, dataset or whatever best tells the story. The stories will be made with other independent makers and enthusiastic creatives. The magazine will include internet education, how-we-made-it essays, interviews with collaborators and fun graphic design.
Compared to traditional modes of developing and publishing magazines, this style of publishing is quite atypical but progressive, hence the name wuruwuru.
Conclusion
In conclusion, it is our submission that there is a genuine and honest motive behind the use of the word wuruwuru in the context of this application. We therefore humbly request that the application be kindly accepted for registration.
We look forward to your kind and favorable response.
